TOKYO -- Calling Tokyos proposed $20 billion budget unacceptable, IOC vice president John Coates urged Japanese organizers on Friday to find ways to make the 2020 Olympics more affordable.Coates, speaking at the end of a coordination commission review of Tokyos preparations, said the International Olympic Committee would not accept the budget put forward by Tokyo organizers. He said the Games could be delivered for less and the current figure could scare off cities considering bids for future Olympics. The IOC is not in a position to accept a budget of $20 billion, Coates said at a news conference. The IOC just isnt going to sign off on a budget which we think exceeds the costs that the Games could be staged for. That would be giving the wrong impression and it would not help us in terms of other candidate cities.Construction costs have soared in part due to shortages in labor and materials as Japan continues to recover from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. Japanese organizers have yet to compile a total cost estimate for the Games, though their first official budget is expected to be released by the end of the year.A Tokyo government panel has accused local organizers of allowing big public works spending for the Olympics without a long-term vision for legacy use. The panel has said the cost of the Olympics could exceed $30 billion -- four times the initial estimate -- unless drastic cuts are made.Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike has spearheaded the cost-cutting effort, proposing a review of three costly new venues. Her efforts have led to some tense exchanges with Yoshiro Mori, president of the 2020 organizing committee.Koike agreed Tuesday to keep the rowing, canoe sprint and swimming venues at their planned sites in Tokyo, rather than moving them to existing venues outside the capital, while securing commitments for substantial cost reductions.A decision on a possible switch of the volleyball venue was delayed until late December.Coates brushed aside suggestions that the showdown over cost-cutting would have a negative impact on Tokyos preparations.Im confident that Governor Koike and President Mori and the two organizations that they lead can work together, Coates said. We sat around a table the other day and we all agreed on two venues and we all agreed that we would postpone a final decision until more investigation was made on a third venue.Five new sports -- baseball-softball, surfing, skateboarding, karate and sports climbing -- were approved for inclusion in the Tokyo Games in August.Subject to the final approval of the IOC, the location of the venues for the five new sports are: Yokohama Stadium for baseball-softball; Nippon Budokan for karate, new structures on Tokyo Bay for sports climbing and skateboarding; and neighboring Chiba prefecture for surfing. It feels great for us, Ivanschitz said. After so many games where we ended up losing and were pretty disappointed because we played great and didnt score, it was a frustrating time for us. But this win tonight is well deserved because we started pretty well, we were on our front foot, we pressed them pretty high, and we finished up our chances.Dempsey scored in the 6th minute when he drilled a penalty kick past goalkeeper Chris Seitz for his third goal of the year. The PK was set up when defender Maynor Figueroa was called for an intentional hand ball on a shot by Ivanschitz just outside of the 6-yard box and shown the red card. Dempseys kick went high into the right side of the net, with Seitz leaping the opposite way. That halted a 321-minute shutout streak for Dallas (11-6-4).Seattle had not scored on its home field since a 2-0 victory against San Jose on May 7 -- a drought of 277 minutes.Ivanschitz increased the lead to 2-0 in the 18th minute. Osvaldo Alonso sent a long through ball toward the top of the penalty area. Ivanschitz and Dallas Atiba Harris both went for it, Ivanschitz got there first and chipped a shot overr the onrushing Seitz and watched it bounce into the net for his third of the season.ddddddddddddJust four minutes later, Morris pushed it to 3-0 with his team-leading seventh. Dempsey sent a ball into the box, and Morris met it at the top right corner of the 6, sending it into the far left corner. It was very important to have those moments to have a good start at home, Ivanschitz said. In the last games, we always had the first chances in the game, but didnt score.Jones scored in the 61st, his second of the sesaon, followed by Roldan in the 73rd. Roldan, who played his college ball at nearby University of Washington, notched his first MLS goal.We always felt if we got a goal, maybe those floodgates would open up, said Sounders coach Sigi Schmid, whose team hadnt scored that many since a 6-2 win against Columbus in August 2011. And they opened up a little bit for us today.Dallas coach Oscar Pareja, whose team played its second game in six nights on the road, didnt start three of his leading scorers: Michael Barrios (six goals), Fabian Castillo (five) and Maximilano Urruti (four). Barrios came in to start the second half, and Castillo entered in the 61st minute. We needed to choose tonight. We have a game in three days at home, and we just came from San Jose, Pareja said. We have a (U.S.) Open Cup game in the middle of next week, and thats an important tournament for us, and after that, we have Colorado away.Seattle had a lot of intensity and did a lot of good things, Pareja added. And for those moments, we couldnt find the rhythm of the game. We have to give them credit. The Sounders also finished with 10 men after Dempsey was sent off in the 34th minute. ' ' '
